This and That across the Web

Regarding Thomas Friedman's post on ''What an Electric Vehicle Costs'.

I built, and then drove for many years, an Electric Vehicle. Friedman's analysis on the gross economics is pretty close to the mark. Overall, a number of companies HAVE tried to (profitably) commercialize the technology over the past years, and none have done so with a high-performance, main-stream car like the GM EV1 was intended to be. And GM did not succeed either -- clearly, to me, for economic reasons. They were aiming for the target principally due to a (now-rescinded) California mandate. But the interesting part about the conspiracy theorists who condemn GM for enforcing their private legal right of contract is what it says about human nature of the conspiracy-theorists, not what is says about the motives of the greedy firm GM.
